While exploring our local backroads, we discovered a true hidden gem. Oakley Bistro Punahele Tonnelier is an intimate restaurant that offers a romantic blend of French culinary tradition fused with the rich comfort flavors of Hawaiian cuisine. All of this, right in the heart of Oakley.

A Marriage of Culture and Cuisine

In Hawaiian, “Punahele” means “favorite,” and “Tonnelier” is the surname of Chef and Co-Owner, Stephane Tonnelier. The name reflects both the culinary heritage and personal story of Chef Stephane and his wife, Sydney. Each dish draws inspiration from the comfort foods they grew up enjoying. Stephane in France. Sydney in Hawaii. The result is a truly unique dining experience where both cultures meet beautifully on the plate.

A Cozy Space Built with Heart

Stephane and Sydney, longtime Oakley residents, spent months searching for the perfect location before finding a small, empty building on Main Street. What started as just four walls and dirt floors was transformed into the inviting bistro that locals love today. Stephane personally designed and built many of the space’s standout features. From the bar to the custom tables, he brought their shared vision to life with warm, personal touches throughout the restaurant.

Locally Sourced & Globally Inspired

The menu at Oakley Bistro Punahele Tonnelier is built around quality, fresh ingredients, many sourced directly from local farms and vendors. For specialty French and Hawaiian ingredients, Chef Stephane works with trusted suppliers to ensure authenticity. Every sauce is house-made, and each dish is cooked to order. This guarantees a consistently fresh and flavorful experience with every visit.

Sydney also brings her creative touch with a variety of mimosas. Bottomless mimosas are offered every Monday, adding to the inviting atmosphere and weekend brunch appeal.
